What's new
What's new in Kitsune
What each version brings, from the newest to the first. Kitsune tells you by itself when a new one is out: once a day it checks this site's download list, without cookies or identifiers.
0.8 beta 3 · October 16, 2026
Kitsune Zero, a separate browser. The same engine as Kitsune, with its own icon and its own installation: you can have both. All its windows are Zero, and the first time you open it, it brings a copy of your Kitsune profile (sign-ins, tabs and passwords). Kitsune itself no longer has the Zero mode.
- Two styles, with everything the same: Nacre (light glass with the rim of a soap bubble) or Sober (smoked glass, calmer). You choose in its settings.
- Grab a page: the little bar under the page takes it to one side (two sites at once) or to its own window. And a tab from the column, dropped on the page, goes next to it.
- Work and Chill with two buttons (a briefcase and a moon), music and sound together in one pill (with each tab's volume), your shortcuts and the settings at the end of the column.
- Backgrounds: Space, Mist or your own photo, with its opacity; and your profile above the search box of a new tab, with its email and accounts in its card.
- Each system its own way: window corners like those of your system and, on a Mac, the green button goes full screen with Zero still there.
0.8 beta 2 · October 15, 2026
Kitsune Zero. A new way to use Kitsune, without bars: the page on a card over a sheet of glass, and everything else in glass pieces that show up when needed. Turn it on and off with Ctrl Alt 0, per window.
- The island: on top, the address and what is going on (loading, downloads, what is playing, camera and microphone in use). With nothing open, a search box in the middle.
- The left column: your profiles stacked, the Work/Chill switch, your tabs and your shortcuts.
- Profiles with their own sessions: each profile can have its own Google, cookies and sign-ins.
- Work and Chill: the pomodoro, quiet mode (silenced notifications and blocked sites while you work) and background sounds, each profile with its own mode.
- Music like in Opera: Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music, SoundCloud, Deezer or Tidal in their own panel, plus a floating mini player; the music keeps playing when you close it.
- Real glass: the edge like a soap bubble, with what lies behind bent along it like real glass: with Apple's glass on macOS 26, with your desktop's on Linux (niri, Hyprland, KDE or GNOME) and, on Windows, over a picture of the page.
And also. Links from other apps open with the sessions of the tab you are on, and on Linux with Wayland a transparent window no longer stays black after switching apps.
0.8 beta 1 · October 14, 2026
With Gecko 158, the Firefox 158 engine and its security fixes.
A lot open, never lost.
- Spaces: groups of tabs, each with its name, its color, its emoji and, if you like, its own user. Switch with a click or with Ctrl Alt 1…9.
- Tabs on the side: on top, in a column on one side or just the icons, from Appearance.
- Split view: up to four sites at once (three in columns, four in a grid). Ctrl Alt D splits the tab or adds another site; with several selected, it puts them together.
- Glance: Alt and click a link to open it on top, without a new tab. If you like it, it stays as a tab without reloading.
- Palette: Ctrl K finds tabs from every space, bookmarks, history and actions, each with its shortcut.
- Compact mode: just the site; the toolbars come back when the mouse reaches the edge. Ctrl Alt C.
- Now playing: when music or a video plays in another tab, its title, its cover and the buttons, at the bottom of the sidebar. One click takes you there, even from another space.
- Bring your stuff: bookmarks, history and tabs from Zen (with its spaces), Firefox, LibreWolf, Floorp or Waterfox; from Chrome, Edge or Brave, with the import wizard.
And also.
- Inks: six styles for all of Kitsune, with their colors in Light and in Dark and their shape (corners and lettering). And you can make your own. Plus a compact density.
- Saver mode you can see: the memory Kitsune uses in the toolbar, sleeping tabs dimmed and «Never sleep» for the sites you want awake. With 20 sites, half the memory it uses without it, and less than Chrome.
- Tweaks: floating web, centered address, new tabs next to the current one, Ctrl+Tab by recent use and more, one click away from the menu.
- Your own keyboard shortcuts: Kitsune's and the most used ones, from the menu. It tells you if a combination already belongs to something else.
- Welcome: the first time, your home page lets you pick the theme, the ink and where the tabs go.
- Kitsune copy: your bookmarks, your spaces with their tabs and, if you like, your history and passwords, in a file encrypted with your password to take them to another computer. No server: you carry the file.
- Privacy you can see: your home page tells you how many trackers it stopped this week.
- Properly in English: the home page, its help and everything new. A new profile follows the system language; the ones you already had stay as they were.
0.7 beta 6 · October 13, 2026
- Users with Kitsune's look: the line on their tabs and their label in the address bar wear the ink of their avatar.
0.7 beta 5 · October 13, 2026
- Several users in the same window, like Google accounts: each with its own sessions, cookies and site data.
- Window buttons your way: Kitsune's or your system's.
- Kitsune for Linux, with an installer that needs no sudo.
- The privacy mode and «Remember Google session» now apply to all of Kitsune.
